Very long forms - any problems?

    Hi everyone,

    I am thinking of purchasing MachForm for a client's site and he has very long forms (currently PDF) that we will be converting to the elegant MachForm online forms:o). I remember reading somewhere in the forum a while ago that there sometimes is problems with MachForm when a form is created that is longer than the norm. Anyone know about this? When I say long, I mean something like 200-300 field long forms (sorry! I understand that MachForm might not have been designed for extra long forms (but I find it hard to get away from its "elegance"!). I am waiting for that day when MachForm will be usable in the context of large forms with features such as collapsible sections, better differentiation of section headings, conditional re-direction of forms based on form fields value etc.). So at this time, I am forced to use MachForm in the context for which it really wasn't designed for, but like I mentioned it's hard to get away from its aesthetics! It's addictive :o)

    So to make a long story short, am I likely to run into problems if a single form contains 200-300 fields? Any suggestions from Yuniar? Anyone?

    Hello Ken,

    Unfortunately, for such a huge form, MachForm javascript won't be as responsive enough and might crashed your browser when you build your form.

    We do have a plan for many things to improve future version of MachForm (including better handling for large form) -- however, I'm afraid this one won't be available real soon.

    Thanks Yuniar,

    What then would be a reasonable field limit for MachForm (approx.)? How long a form do you think I can REALISTICALLY build before I start running into problems?

    Normally, any form <= 100 fields shouldn't make your browser unresponsive. Any larger than that, you will notice some slow response from the javascript when you build your form.

    However, this is really depends on your computer spec (processor + memory) -- the higher you have, the higher the limit.

    I suggest to try it yourself using your own computer, try to create 100 fields and save it. Then for the next 20 fields you add, make sure to save your form again.

    So this is an issue ONLY while CREATING the form on the CREATOR'S computer. Once the form is done the end users/form fillers won't have any problem with longer forms? Myself experiencing problems while creating the form is a much preferable scenario than the end users experiencing problems with long forms on who knows what browser/platform they are using :o) I was thinking the form might give trouble post-creation or while filling by the end users. Please clarify.

    Also I have an idea about overcoming the limitation of MachForm, that of not being able to lead users to different forms based on answers to prev. questions (which in itself is work-around for MachForm not being a multi-page form creation tool) by using another product I found: FormProcessor Pro. I can design a beautiful form in MachForm and hand over the HTML to FormProcessor Pro etc. Any opinions?! If you have time could you look at it and see what you think? This might also be useful to your other users.

    Thank you for your suggestion regarding the conditional redirect. This is indeed something that has been asked by many people, along with multipage forms.
