Excel not recognizing Date inputs

    I am entering a date 12/31/2008 into a cell, but it isn't being recognized as a date. I have tried changing the format to a date and it still does not work. Any ideas?

    What version of Excel are you using? In any case, check the options of your excel program and make sure that formating is set correctly for the date function (checking locale etc...)
